Arrived Safely and Settled in at the Hotel

FWhen we arrived at Newark Airport, I changed our seats for the Paris to Dublin flight, having checked out the advice on seatguru. My main concern was size of overhead bins. Found out it didn't really matter since we couldn't carry them on the plane, had to check them at the bottom of the steps before boarding. When we arrived in Dublin, they were ready for us. Best thing about that was not having to wait at baggage check in Dublin.

As we left Newark, the pilot told us the flight was going to be "bumpy" but it wasn't bad at all. THANK GOODNESS. He announced that there was a problem with the video system so we couldn't watch any movies. I really didn't care since I was planning to sleep most of the flight. At some point, movies were accessible so, after a long nap, I watched part of one. Food on the plane was okay, especially with preordering special vegetarian meals... get served first with hot food. Tortellini, couscous, cheese, fruit, tapioca, and juice. I wasn't too hungry because we shared a sandwich and "freeze" at Newark Airport, not knowing what food situation would be on the plane. They also served a simple continental breakfast (yogurt, muffin) so no problem with eating. (I can manage to miss a meal if necessary...)

On the approach to DeGaulle Airport, Steve pointed out the Eiffel Tower in the distance. One of those WOW moments. It's not the best photo but interesting to see it with the wing of the plane on the side. We'll see it "up close and personal" next week when we're in Paris. When the plane landed, we had to walk down the steps to a bus, stand up (holding on to the bus straps), as the bus took us on a long ride to the terminal. New terminal and yet many planes don't go to it. They're building more so no idea when (or if) this will change. We followed the signs to transfers and then realized we had to go through security again. Not as bad as Heathrow (London), and NO FUN. I had already put away my liquids so had to take out the bag, explaining that I had more than the allowable amount for my eyedrops. No problem with that. Steve had to have his suitcase opened, probably because he had a pouch with electronic stuff (cables, chargers, etc) so took longer than usual. Oh, well. One of the things you just have to deal with when you travel. Makes no sense, but...

Flight to Dublin was on time and uneventful. Both of us slept most of the way.

When we arrived at the airport, we purchased the Dublin Pass (included bus ride to a few blocks from hotel) and a 5-day bus pass. That should work out well. Reception staff was very nice and had our room ready even though we were here at 1 PM (2 PM is considered check in time.) There are 2 beds so we each get our own. Steve decided to take the smaller one. Plenty of room with a desk (where I'm now using the Netbook).
