Arrival in Paris

When we arrived in Paris, we checked to find out about taking the RER train before using our transit cards. We had purchased the cards before we left so we could use them right away. They are valid for Zones 1-3 only (Airport is in Zone 5.) so we had to inquire and buy a ticket from the airport to the first station in Zone 3. When we walked toward the train, a young man said "Paris" and we knew that was the right train. What we didn't know was that he was looking for money. Before the train left, he handed everyone a printed card (French and English) saying he was a refugee and looking to support his family. He went back to everyone to pick up the cards and money if anyone was willing to give it to him.

We took the RER train to the 6th stop, walked up the stairs and then activated our transit cards (Purchased in advance and received in the mail for this Paris trip) for there. It was kind of funny to go upstairs but we had to activate the 5-day card. Arrived at next stop to transfer to Metro. (I brought a printed paper with directions to the hotel so we knew when/where train changes had to be made.) Just as we were leaving Metro station in our hotel area, I saw people with umbrellas. Walked out and it stopped raining. Stairs down (lots of stairs in this neighborhood) and short walk to our hotel. Checked in and went up to room to unpack, etc. Room is SMALL. I'll take pictures tomorrow.

Walked in neighborhood to check it out. First stop... local bakery Les Campaillette, for a baguette. Yummy. Looked around for place to eat but many restaurants weren't open yet. Ate at Royal Championnet, with Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai food. Good food, but, as expected, not cheap for the amount. Going to be a challenge here with cost of meals. Stopped at market to pick up some juice, fruit, and yogurt. No mini fridge here so putting it on window ledge that has a metal grate to keep it from falling onto someone's head below. Paid for an Internet 7-day plan for about $9 so we can check email, I can write my blog, and other Internet stuff.

Picture of me with all our suitcases, waiting for the train. That's all we need for our trip. I have the Netbook in my shoulder bag. Happy I didn't leave home without it!
